Has this ever happened to you?

The book I’m reading right now is so good I have to put in it my coworker’s desk in order to avoid the temptation of reading when I should be working.

I hit the ball! My sister shouted this out to me when she and some of our coworkers came back from playing softball in our company league in Central Park.  I’m so proud!

A bold red from Galilee, anyone?

Receiving a bottle of Israeli wine from a client in a morning meeting is never a bad way to begin the day.

I forgot my work ID and security key card at home today, so I’ve been taking the long road to the bathroom all day.  I usually cut through the elevator lobby to the bathroom but instead today I walked around the north side of the floor (to avoid the temptation of the vending machines, which are on the south side) It was a nice change of pace, although by the end of the day I realized that I have gotten way too lazy, because I was really missing just cutting through to get to the other side (and yes I get up that often, shut up).
I’m basically using all this extra walking as the excuse for why I’m skipping the gym tonight.

Really missing out

My parents & sister are at the Neil Diamond concert at the Garden right now.  For some reason when buying the tickets my mom forgot she has two daughters, and my sister won rock paper scissors.  Although, as I’m currently on death’s door, I’m not as bummed as I should be.

Now before you un-follow me for my ungodly taste in music, I grew up listening to Neil Diamond.  He has been one of my parents’ favorite singers for decades, and when I received my first grown-up tape deck for my 7th birthday, they gave me not a Tiffany cassette like all the other little girls, but a Neil Diamond cassette.  I didn’t care, I loved it.  I was singing “Beautiful Noise” and “America” while my friends sang “I Think We’re Alone Now.”

Every time I hear his music, I feel like I’m back in our old apartment, wearing a Popples t-shirt and singing “Love On the Rocks” to my Rainbow Brite dolls.

I did have a Debbie Gibson cassette, too - I was a little normal.

Okay.
I get shutter sunglasses.  I get heart-shaped sunglasses.
But heart-shaped shutter sunglasses?
Ha, say that 5 times fast.

Memories of a long, hot night...no, not what you think

It just came to my attention that the 2003 blackout was exactly 5 years ago today.

It was an interesting day, to say the least - I would up at a bar down the block from my office with my coworkers where we drank in the dark for free before moving out onto the sidewalk.  While we were outside Kelly Osborne walked by with a gentleman friend; we invited them to join us but they said no thanks.  Before the sun went down I walked the mile-and-a-half to my cousin’s apartment on the upper east side where we sat for the rest of the night drinking wine that was blessfully still cold.

Way to be cultured, Mel

According to Blayne on Project Runway, I’ve been mispronouncing the name of the city Yakima, Washington for a year at work and no one bothered to tell me.  Apparently it’s YAH-ki-ma, and not Yah-KEE-ma, which is how this rocket scientist has been saying it.

Unless it’s like Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, which apparently is pronounced both Wilkes BAR and Wilkes Berry.

Oh, who the hell cares.  Olympic men’s swimming is on.

My mom makes me laugh...and also a little sad

  • Me: Hi Mom, you called?
  • Mom: Yeah, I have a question about a Billy Joel song.
  • Me: Fire away.
  • Mom: You know the song that goes, "In the middle of the niiiight..."
  • Me: Yes.
  • Mom: Is the name of that song 'River of Dreams' or 'The River of Dreams'? I'm fixing the song titles in my iPod.
  • Me: It doesn't matter, Ma, iTunes ignores the word 'the' when it's at the beginning of a song title.
  • Mom: Ohhhhh, I seeeeeee....but do you know which one it is anyway?
